China is celebrating 22 years as a UPOV member today. Here China’s Office of the Protection of New Varieties of Plant, National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) highlights the new azalea variety, ‘Shengchun 8’, a “model of flower breeding innovation in the new era” with high ornamental value, wide adaptability, and disease resistance. So far, there are 45 Azalea varieties like ‘Shengchun 8’ that have been granted Plant Variety Protection in China, such as ‘Baoyu ’, ‘Chunchao’, and ‘ Xianhe’.
