1. According to the climatic characteristics of the location, select varieties that can adapt, such as planting cold-resistant varieties in northern regions.

2. Do not blindly plant a large number of azaleas in areas with a particularly arid climate.

3. If the soil in the area belongs to saline-alkali land, azaleas cannot be planted.

4. If the watering in the area is alkaline and has high salinity, please do not plant a lot until effective measures have been concluded.

5. Planting season: The suitable time for planting azaleas is from late September to before spring flowers (suitable for areas in the south of the Yangtze River, for example, in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang); the suitable time for planting in northern regions is from the thaw in spring to early June. Those that are not planted in these time periods should strengthen management, properly use facilities for shading or heat preservation, pay attention to watering, and promote slow seedlings. Azaleas can grow new roots throughout the winter as long as the roots are not frozen, which is very beneficial for the next year's growth.

6. Natural soil suitable for planting: you can choose the soil from mountain forests, barren hills where wild rhododendrons, gardenias or masson pine can grow (with sand and gravel would be better), and the thickness of a suitable soil layer should be more than 50 cm. For neutral or acidic sandy land, river beach land, it is necessary to plow more than 50 cm deep when planting, and it is best to mix some organic matter that is not easy to decompose, such as peanut shells, broken wood chips, bark, rice husks, etc.

7. Soil quality that needs to be improved: loam, sandy loam, etc. Before planting, a large amount of organic matter can be added, such as sawdust, wood chips, peat, artificial substrate, and an appropriate amount of ferrous sulfate, deep plow more than 50 cm, and mix evenly.

8. Unsuitable soil quality for planting: clay loam, municipal waste soil, construction waste soil, alkaline soil, etc. If you want to plant azaleas on it, you must fill it with suitable soil or artificial mixed substrate with a thickness of more than 50 cm.

9. Drainage is very important: terrain drainage, underground drainage, and water seepage must be provided, and the drainage system should be carefully planned before planting.

10. There should be watering conditions suitable for water quality: 1-2 years of watering management for azalea planting (especially for garden applications) is very important, which will affect the efficiency of growing.

Planting soil ratio/formula（1mu=0.067hectare）：

1)    Sandy soil 60% + chipped wood 30% + peat 10% + organic fertilizer 300-500kg/mu;

2)  70% acid mountain soil with good air permeability + 20% wood chips + 10% peat soil + 300-500kg/mu of organic fertilizer;

3)    River sand soil 60%-70% + broken wood chips 20%-30% + peat soil 10% + organic fertilizer 300-500kg/mu;

4)      40% river sand + 20% broken wood chips + 10% peat + 300-500kg/mu of organic fertilizer for large-scale improvement, and the improvement depth is more than 50cm.

Non-saline-alkali land, hard soil, and soil with good air permeability can be used without blocking salt and permeable layers. Just add 1kg/cubic meter of sulfuric acid heptahydrate at the same time
